On the 25th January 2023 Professor Stephen Dance gave his second Inargural Lecture. Steve holds a chair in acoustics at London South Bank Unniversity and graced us with a presentation on, "Acoustics for the Benefit to Musicians+". A packed audience enjoyed the presentaton and the demonstrations to illustrate the link between noise and hearing. A Youtube video on LSBU channel will be available shortly.

International student recruitment managers visit the Acoustics Laboratory
International student recruitment managers visited London South Bank University (LSBU) Acoustics Lab on 24th January 2023. They travelled from India, Egypt, Nigeria, Malaysia and Vietnam, to gain a deep understanding of the support systems, facilities and courses that the School of the Built Environment and Architecture (BEA) offers. Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina toured the group around the acoustics lab showing instrumentation and facilities and providing explanations on the type of courses and content we teach. The engaging session included some interactive demos and taster experiential learning which took place in the different chambers. The group expressed their enjoyment with the inspiring short seminar. We hope we can meet them again next year!

Suzana Zekic wins Best Poster at End of the Year LSBU Research event 2022
The Postgraduate Research End of Year event took at LSBU Docotral Academy on 9th December 2022. Part-time PhD student Suzana Zekic won the School of Built Environment and Architecture best poster competition. Suzana's industry supported research is entitled, "Characterisation of the acoutic propertieis of alternative ventilation ducts" and is supervised by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina and co-supervised by Dr Haydar Aygun and Prof Issa Chaer. Many congratulations to Suzana!

The 2021-22 IOA Diploma best student final project LSBU-NTI award named
The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) London Branch held its first meeting of the year on 10th January 2023. Three of the best IOA 2021-22 Diploma student from London South Bank University (LSBU) presented their final projects as part of annual NTI-Audio sponsored best final project award competition. The presenting finalists and their topics were: Dan Hagan on Investigating BS4142:2014 reflection correction, Matt Hayes on The Acoustics of a complex learning disabilities school and Leonardo Fernandez on Building vibration from music festivals . The in-person meeting took place at LSBU and was also streamed online. Both venues were very well attended by a mix of senior consultants, academics and ex-LSBU acoustics students. Organisers NTI-Audio UK Managing director Charles Greene and Diploma course director Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina presented the award to the joyous winner: Leonardo Fernandez. In the presentation speech Charles mentioned the high quality of the projects entered reflecting the high standard of the Diploma run at LSBU. Many congratulations to Leonardo and to the other two well deserved finalists. We wish you all the best for the future.

New PhD researcher - Alec Korchev
We welcome a new PhD student- Alec Korchev, an LSNU alumni, to the Acoustics Group. Alec will br studying, "Creaking in Tall Buildings". He will be supervised by Prof Stephen Dance and Ms Ottavia Rispoli and Ed Clarke (of Clarke Saunders) ovet the next few years. We wish him all the best with his research.

We welcome a new PhD students, and former LSBU alumni, Edward Croxton-Martin to the Acoustics Group. Edward is studying, "Novel Metrics for the Subjective Response to Acoustic Stimuli". He will be supervised by Prof Stephen Dance and Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina over the next few years. We wish him good luck in his research endeavours.
