Formal launch of the Acoustics Apprenticeship

The new Acoustics Technician Apprenticeship was formally announced to industry at an informative launch event  on 21st Jan 2020 at AECOM offices in Algate Tower, London. The well attended ANC event was organised by the Apprenticeship trailblazer group. On invitation, the apprenticeship  academic lead at LSBU, Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina presented LSBU as an education provider committed to the development and delivery of the apprenticeship from Sept 2020. The audience of potential employers, showed a clear interest in the apprenticeship during the Q &A sessions  and informal discussions over wine and pizza.

Abstract submitted to I-INCE conference on Quiet Drones

An abstract has been submitted by MSc candidate Josie Nixon for the I-INCE Europe organised Quiet Drone symposium, 25-26th May 2020. The symposium will be held in Paris and Ms Nixon and Professor Dance will jointly give a presentation on "The Attack of the Drones: Reducing the sound emission using aero-acoustics". 

Best IOA Diploma 2018-19 Final project at LSBU named

Each year the best IOA Diploma final student projects undertaken at LSBU are presented to IOA London Branch. Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina introduced Charles Green of NTi-Audio who sponsors a new award for the best project. On 16th January 2020 two of the three nominated finalists  presented their work. Paul Roberts presented on, "Sound Propagation From Lightwells" and Jakub Hajko on "Monitoring Aircraft Reduced Engine Taxi Using Sound Level Meters". Charles Greene presented the award and prize to the winner, Jakub Hajko.  After the meeting and award ceremony we all went to the local pub to raise our glasses to Jakub and Paul.

Abstract submitted to Inter-Noise 2020, Seoul

An abstract has been submitted to Inter-Noise 2020 to be held in Seoul 23-26 August 2020. The paper by Prof Stephen Dance and PhD candidate Doug Shearer is entitled, "Measurement of absorption coefficients to ISO 354 using tall sound sources and microphones". Looking forward to an Korean adventure!

Best Final projects of the IOA Diploma at LSBU Class 2018-19 to present at IOA London Branch

On Thursday 16th January 2020 two of the best IOA Diploma final projects undertaken at LSBU will be presented at 18:00h at the IOA London Branch meeting. The meeting will take place at the WSP offices in  London, 70 Chancery Lane WC2A 1AF. NTI-Audio kindly sponsors the best LSBU IOA Diploma final project completion and will present a prize to the winner. The nominated students for the award that will be presenting at the meeting will be Paul Roberts and Jakub Hajko their corresponding projects entitled : "Sound Propagation From Lightwells", and "Monitoring of aircraft RET using sound level meters". Follow this link to register and obtain your free ticket to attend

Inaugural Lecture: Professor Stephen Dance

On the 25th March 2020 Professor Stephen Dance will give his inaugural lecture at the new London South Bank University Apprenticeship Passmore Centre on Borough Road. This is a university tradition that every new professor should present their work to the public. He has chosen "Face the Music: Hearing and the Sound of Performance" as the topic. It will start of 5pm with drinks and the lecturer is at 6pm. The event is combined with an Institute of Acoustics London Branch meeting for efficiency and there's free drinks! 

Abstract suibmitted to ASA Chicago meeting

An abstract by PhD candidate Rodrigo Sanchez-Pizani has been submitted for the Acoustical Society of America Meeting to be held in Chicago, 11-15th May 2020. The paper is on the "Subjective evaluation of microphones used in lecture capture systems".  It will be presented by co-author Prof Peter Mapp.

Luis promoted to Senior Lecturer

An academic promotions assessment panel at London South Bank University approved in Dec 2019, Dr Gomez-Agustina’s  application for promotion to Senior Lecturer. This is excellent news and  deserved recognition. Well done Luis !
