Masters Students Graduate Class of 2021

 

On the 23rd January 2022, Masters students from the Class of 2021 attended graduation at the Royal Festival Hall. Once again Prof Stephen Dance pitched Inter-Noise 22 to Angela, Rebecca, Sarah, and Stan. The distant students sent their virtual regards by watching the on-line Youtube stream, thanks Claus and Josie! These were the Lockdown class where lectures started at 2am for those in the America, so I knew they were a determined bunch! Well done all!!!!

On the 23rd January 2022 the MSc in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics graduated at the Royal Festival Hall. A double graduation ceremony was held where Prof Stephen Dance tried ot persuade the students to come in Inter-Noise 21-25 Augut 2022 in Glasgow. Well Sam, Kim, Angela, Michael, (Stephen, Dean and Paula). There's an invitation worth discussing! 

Graduation of Two Doctoral Students

 
On the 23rd January 2022 London South Bank University held it Graduation Ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall. It was a great pleasure to see Dr Doug Shearer (2014-2021) and Dr Eric Ballestero (2016-2021), students who studied with us for their Masters and their PhD, at graduation. We hope they both stay in touch and come back one day to give a guest lecture  on "Low Frequency Absorbers" or "Room Acoustic Metamaterials"!

Best 2020-21 IOA Diploma Final project at LSBU award announced

 
The IOA London Branch held its first online meeting of the year, 19th January 2022. Three of the best IOA Diploma student from London South Bank University presented as part of the annual NTI-Audio sponsored best final project award competition. The presenting finalists and their topics were: James Gardner on Acoustic Quality and Comfort in Public Gymnasiums, Daniel Hare on The Acoustical Challenges of a Change of Room Purpose  and Gareth Hance on C Weighted low-frequency control at outdoor concerts . The meeting was very well attended by a mix of senior consultants, academics and ex-LSBU acoustics students. Organisers NTI-Audio UK Managing director Charles Greene and Diploma course director Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina presented the award to the winner: Gareth Hance.  Many congratulations to Gareth and to the other two finalists. We wish you all the best for the future.

Acoustics in action photoshoot in January 2022 IOA Bulletin

 

As part of the IOA initiative to own a large and diverse stock of images for  its media communications, the  Acoustics Group has donated 865 photos to contribute to that stock. A photoshoot session was designed and led by IOA Diploma course director at LSBU, Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina, to provide attractive images that represent and illustrate the  acoustics profession in action. Six students on the current 2021-22 Diploma course  kindly assisted with the photoshoot. The IOA has expressed gratitude and featured one of the photos on the front page of the January 2022 Bulletin issue.


Abstract submitted to 182nd Acoustical Society of America Meeting

 

An abstract has been submitted to the 182nd Acoustical Society of America meeting to be held in Denver, 23-27th May 2022.  The paper will be on, "Feasibility study for the hearing assessment of classical music student using Otoacoustic Emissions" and will presented the work undertaken by Prof Stephen Dance and Dr Eric Ballestero with the Royal Academy of Music. Looking forward to going somewhere!

Examination of TingTing Yang

 

To kick off 2022 Professor Stephen Dance and Professor Peter Ryanham examined the PhD thesis by Ms TingTing Yang of the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL The thesis was entitled, "Acoustics of sequential spaces" and was defended by TingTing on 5th January 2022. The doctoral study investigated architectural acoustics of museum and exhibition spaces.
