UKAN Exchange Visit with Edinburgh University

A tri-tripartite collaboration with Edinburgh University and the Royal Opera House has resulted in a UK Acoustics Network (UKAN) exchange visit. Brian Hamilton working with PhD candidate Eric Basllestero produced new solutions to model diffusers in FDTD simulations for room acoustics. The paper will be presented at Forum Acusticum in April 2020.

Former LSBU Head of Institute of Environmental Engineering presents at LSBU

The second IOA London Branch meeting of the year was held on 19th February 2020 at London South Bank University. The meeting moved from its usual venue to accommodate the oversubscribed evening talk. Around 110 people attended Dr Geoff Leventhall talk entitled I can still hear it and it’s making me ill ..”. The talk discussed challenging and contested aspects of noise perception and their associated annoyance. The audience mostly from the relevant industries, local authorities and academia valued and appreciated the insights put forward by Dr Leventhall. The meeting organised and hosted by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina was then led to continue informally to our local pub for further discussions and networking.

Luis contributes to: The Book of Acoustics

On 4 Feb 2020 “The Book of Acoustics” published by BAUX was presented in Stockholm (Sweden). Created in collaboration with leading acousticians, neuroscientists and designers. The Book of Acoustics explores the science of sound and provides guidance for designing with acoustics. Complete with facts, figures, diagrams and expert insight, it is the ideal starting point for architectural and interior design projects and sheds light on the interplay between engineering and aesthetics. Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina was part of the panel of experts who contributed and feature in several chapters of the book. We hope you enjoy the book
