The Institute of Acoustics have just released a special issue of their bi-monthly publication - The Bulletin on a career in acoustics. It outlines what acoustics is - "The science of sound - it's production, transmission and effects". So if you are interested in acoustics a subject that mixes people, science and engineering plus medicine, psychology, education, music - an endless list essentially. Take a look.
