PhD student's Short Scientific Mission to Le Mans University
Over the February 2019 PhD candidate Eric Ballestero visited Le Mans University to undertake a short scientific mission with LAUM. The mission was supported by DENORMS a EU COST Action. Eric has been measuring the acoustic properties of a metadiffuser and on the creation of the Young Researchers in Acoustic Metamaterials (YRAM) association. It looks like they have been looking after him as well!

Secured Industry Sponsored PhD in Acoustics
On 30th January 2019 a future research collaboration between LSBU Acoustics group and two industrial partners (Imtech and Nuaire) was formally established at a meeting event organised and hosted at LSBU by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina. The research will investigate the acoustic properties of ventilation acoustic ducts and it will be conducted through a part time PhD programme due to start in April 2019. The collaboration is the fruit of many months of intense preparations by the future PhD candidate and LSBU- IOA Diploma ex-student Suzana Zekic and Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina. The meeting event also included a tour of LSBU facilities and a canteen lunch, both highly praised by the industrial partners.

ACCEPTED ABSTRACT ON ACOUSTIC ANALYSIS OF SOUND TRANSMISSION USING STATISTICAL ENERGY ANALYSIS
The review panel of Inter-Noise conference to be held in Madrid in June 2019, has accepted the abstract of a paper entitled “ Acoustical Analysis of sound transmission in a mixed-used development using statistical energy analysis (SEA)”. The paper has been written by LSBU MSc student Juan Luis Rioperez Rodriguez and Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina. It presents an investigation into the suitability of SEA as a design aid in the construction process of developments containing noise-sensitive spaces. The always tricky structure-borne flanking sound transmission between non adjacent spaces is also considered. We hope to see you at the conference and enjoy the paper.

Institute of Acoustics Meeting to be held at South Bank
On Wednesday 20th February 2019 London South Bank University will be hosting the Institute of Acoustics London branch meeting. The topic for the evening is "Designing soundscape in urban open public spaces". The presentation will be Professor Jian Kang of UCL Bartlett School of Architecture" and will be our Castle lecture theatre in London Road. Book early!
Abstract for IOA Spring Conference on Acoustics, Ventilation and Overheating
An abstract has been submitted for the Institute of Acoustics Spring Conference to be held 13-14th May 2019 at the Hilton Milton Keynes. The paper was written by Diploma student Kim Coleman and supervised by Dr Stephen Dance and is entitled, "Post occupancy perception of acoustics, ventilation and overheating in Residential dwellings". See you at the Don's stadium!

Accepted abstract on Voice Alarm systems on occupied underground platforms
The review panel of Inter-Noise conference to be held in Madrid in June 2019, has accepted the abstract of a paper entitled “Acoustic Design of Voice Alarm System in an Occupied Underground Platform”. The paper has been written by LSBU MSc student Graeme Littleford and Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina. It presents a study on the design of Voice Alarm systems in a simulated occupied underground platform. We hope to see you at the conference and enjoy the paper.

Accepted abstract on Suitability of Sound Sources Used in Room Acoustics testing
The review panel of Inter-Noise conference to be held in Madrid in June 2019, has accepted the abstract of a paper entitled “Practical and Technical Suitability of Sound Sources and Test Signals Used in Room Acoustics”. The paper has been written by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina and ex LSBU Diploma student Jon Barnard. It discusses the suitability of a variety of sound sources used in acoustic testing and present the perception and attitudes of acoustic practitioners towards them. We hope to see you at the conference and enjoy the paper.
