Snowsound tested in the lab

On the 31st January 2014 Caimi bought a test sample of their new compressed polyester Snowsound absorptive panel. This panel was very light and Class A rated. We tested the panel using the new Microflown impedance gun and confirmed it's excellent absorption characteristic.

The acoustics of organs and the buildings in which they are housed

One day Meeting on 4th July 2014 at Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London NW1 5HT.
In summer 2013, a new three-manual symphonic organ, built by Orgelbau Kuhn, was installed in the Duke’s Hall. This meeting will be focusing matters relating to the considerations needed in the design of new and modified organs and the need to obtain the most satisfactory acoustic performance within new and existing buildings where they will be sited.  This meeting will be of interest to acousticians, architects involved in designing and modifying music performance venues, organ builders, professional organists along with audio engineers involved in recording and broadcasting.

New Transmission Loss Standing Wave Tube

The BSWA Technology dual standard wave tube is now installed in the London South Bank University Acoustics Laboratory. The tube meets ISO 10534-2 and ASTM E2611 standards for 2 and 4 microphone signal analysis. This will allow both normal incidence angle absorption and transmission loss coefficients.

Anne Kyyro Quinn and the Acoustics Group in the Finnish Business Daily

On the 21st January 2014 the Finnish Business Daily published a 4 page article on the work of the international designer, and ex MSc student, Anne Kyyro Quinn. The article included our on-going collaboration involving the acoustic design of AKQ textile panels. Anne, as ever, looks fabulous!


IOA Measurement Group Meeting at LSBU

On the 25th June 2014 London South Bank University will host an Institute of Acoustics one day event. The seminar is organised by the Measurement Group with assistance from the Health and Safety Laboratory and is on the topic of Noise Labeling. This should info us on this important topic!

New Micro-Perforated Panels Tested

On the 13th January 2014 Rob Toulson from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge visited the Acoustics laboratory. Dr Toulson wanted a new Class C micro-perforated absorber tested as part of a EU Framework 7 project. We also had the chance to use our new Microflown impedance gun!

NPL visit the Acoustics Group

On the 7th January 2014 the Acoustics team of National Physics Laboratory visited London South Bank University. Discussions were held with the Acoustics and Ionizing Radiation Division, on of the 5 technical divisions, on potential projects for future collaboration. Watch this space!
