The Association of Architects Visit LSBU

 

Once again the Association of Architects have visited the LSBU Acoustics Laboratory. The 4th year students talked to PhD students about how acoustics influents life. Lots of experiments were undertaken with balloons and loudspeakers. We hoped the students remember their time with us!

National Gallery Painting Tests

 

The National Gallery visited the LSBU Acoustics Laboratory, 19-21 February 2024, to undertaken testing of oil paintings. The testing was to establish if very high levels of air-borne sound affected the painting. This involved hiring a Polytec Laser Vibrometer and a very large loudspeaker! Many thanks to Bickerdike Allen  Partners and the support of UKAN. Lots of analysis now needs to be undertaken!

Abstract submitted to Inter-Noise 24

 

New PhD studetn Ruben Vazquez Amos has submitted an abstract to Inter-Noise, to be held in Nantes, August 2024. The proposed paper is on, "The need for effective acoustic treatment with minimal profile". Well done Ruben and good luck!

Royal Opera House Chorus Rehearsal Room Tests

 

On the 2nd February 2024 students from the Acoustics Group visited the new Chorus Rehearsal Room at the Royal Opera House. The student undertook room acoustics measurements to assess the acoustic quality of the rehearsal room for group singing and for audtions. It was good to see both new and old students!

Presenting... The Art of Being Meetings

 
The Art of Being Meetings are back with the support of the IOA and UKAN Early Career groups! This time down in Southampton. The two one day events will be hosted by the National Oceanographic Centre on 21/22nd March 2024. The idea is to bring together practitioners and academic to share their knowledge and experience of the business. You can register here! 2022-23 NTI-Audio award best LSBU IOA Diploma project

 

The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) London Branch held its first meeting of the year at London South Bank University (LBSU) on 17th January 2024. Two of the best 2022-23 IOA Diploma student projects at LSBU were shortlisted to present their final projects as part of annual NTI-Audio sponsored best final project award competition. The students shortlisted and their topics were: Rebecca Page on Impact Noise and Vibration Induced by Deadlifts and Rhiannon Hawkins on Acoustic design of heritage school buildings

Sponsor of the award  NTI-Audio UK Managing director Charles Greene and LSBU IOA Diploma course director Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina presented the award to the joyous winner: Rebecca Page. This year’s event has marked the sixth anniversary of this successful award. The hybrid meeting  was well attended by a mix of senior consultants, academics, acoustics students and alumni. In the presentation speech Charles mentioned the consistent high quality of the projects entered to this award reflecting the high standard of the Diploma run at LSBU. Many congratulations to Rebecca and the other shortlisted finalist, we wish you all the best for the future.
