3D audio headphone tests for Coyosy

On the 26th April 2022 the School of Engineering and School of the Built Environment and Architecture undertook a collaboration to test Coyosy headphones. The prototype headphones are able to relicate 3D audio using multiple drivers to change perception as to the sound direction. More testing to be undertaken soon!

Posters at CIBSE Tech Symposium

On the 21/22nd April 2022 London South Bank University hosted the annual CIBSE Technical Symposium. The Acoustics Group were represented with two posters, the first on hearing assessment and the second on our educational programme. Always looking for new PhD students!

Paper published on Teaching Acoustics during a Pandemic

 

On the 1st April 2022 Professor Stephen Dance has published a paper in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. The paper entitled, "Teaching acoustics during a pandemic: Lab in a Box experiments at home" illustrated how it was possible to teach postgraduate students the practical aspects of acoustics using filmed experiment, virtualised software, and by distributig audio kit to undertaken experiments. These resources will be reused as part of our newly announced Apprenticeship in Acoustics. 

Paper published on Hyflex technology to deliver teaching under COVID

 

On the 6th April 2022 PhD candidate, Rodrigo Sanchez-Pizani and the AV team at King's College published a paper in the Journal of Learning Evironments Research. The paper entitled, "Hydrid flexible (Hyflex) teaching and learning:  Climbing the mountain of implementation challenges for sychnronus on-line teaching and face-to-face seminars during the pandemic". Well done Rodrigo!

Joint Hearing Conservation Association and Institute of Acoustics Meeting

 

On the 30th March 2022 after a 2 year delay the joint Hearing Conservation / Instittue of Acoustics meeting was hosted by the Royal Academy of Engineering. The focus was on, "Hear for Tomorrow" around music and entertainment industries. Forty-five attendees were entertained and informed by 11 presentations - some virtual (international) and some in-person. An evening event where the exhibitioners showed their wares was helped by a drinks reception. The event was kindly sponsored by UKAN+.

Paper on Hybrid Flexible teaching published

 

On the 29th March 2022 the Journal of Building and Environment published a paper by PhD candidate Rodrigo Sanchez-Pizani entitled, "Hybrid flexible seminar delivery - a technical overview of the implementation".  The paper covers room acoustics and electroacoustics as related to lecture rooms. The paper is available for free for 50 days. Well done Rodrigo!

Callux returns to the Lab

 

Callux returned with his Youtubers to the acoustics lab on 25th March 2022. This was the 3rd anniversary of the filming of the amazingly successful, "Staying in the Quietest Room in the World Until I went Crazy" video. He stayed all afternoon, so stay tuned to what we see what happened this time!
