New instrumentation - Voice Care

On the 30th April 2013 Professor Alessio Carullo from the Politecnico di Torino Electronics department demonstrated a new voice stress analyser - Voice Care. He was kind enough to leave the instrumentation with the Acoustics Group so that it could be compared with the KayPentax APM analyser. The ERASMUS students will be undertaking the tests to verify the quality of the measurements.

Politecnico di Torino visit

On the 29th and 30th April 2013 Prof Arianna Astolfi and Prof Alessio Carullo from the Politecnico di Torino visited London South Bank University. Arianna presented her research in Building Physics and Acoustics and discussed potential collaboration starting with the recent progress made by the Masters students, Elena and Daniela.

Mike Barron gives guest lecture

On the 26th April 2013 Mike Barron gave a guest lecture to the Acoustics Group. The topic was auditorium acoustics in particular room acoustics parameter which represent the subjective listening condition for the audience. The students greatly appreciated Mike's time especially the Q&A session afterwards.

Opera Singers in the Lab

On the 17th April 2013 opera singers from the Royal Academy of Music visited the Acoustics Laboratory. They sang beautifully for us in the anechoic and reverberant chambers. A delightful day

Eurosis Electronic Voting Clickers

A new purchase for the Acoustic Group! The Eurosis electronic voting system to quickly and accurately collect subjective responses. Multiple acoustic uses! 24 clickers so enough to collect an entire classes feedback!

Auralisation Headphones

CATT Acoustics v9.0c room prediction software came with built in auralisation technology. To create accurate auralisations the singal should be corrected for the headphones frequency response. The Beyerdynamic 990pro headphones automatically match the CATT Acoustic auralisations. We are going to listen to opera singers in their own virtual world!

Campbell-Associates demonstrate latest tech

On the 19th April 2013 John Campbell of Campbell Associates came to visit the Acoustics Group to demonstrate the very latest technology. The new miniature acoustic camera produced an active discussion amongst the MSc students on the potential applications for the device. The particle velocity probe also had it's uses in diagnostic analysis. Many thanks to John.
