Paper published in the Journal of Noise and Health

 
The journal of Noise and Health have published a paper by Prof Dance and Dr Gomez-Agustina entitled, "London Heliport: Noise emissions and the effect on Local Residents". This research was funded by three local authorities: Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea. 

Strong Acoustic Group Presence in the Acoustic Bulletin

The March/April 2021 issue of the  Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Bulletin includes three Acoustic Group items. Two articles by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina. The first one on the online prize giving ceremony for LSBU IOA Diploma students which took place virtually at the IOA London Branch in January 2021. This annual prize competition is sponsored by NTI-Audio to award the best IOA Diploma final project undertaken at LSBU. NTI-Audio UK General manager has congratulated our growing visibility and reputation. The second article summarises the acoustic characterisation survey undertaken in Dec 2020 in London's Greenwich foot tunnel. Thirdly, an item on Prof Dance's Early Career Group seminar, 8th February 2021 on how  LSBU Acoustic courses have successfully run despite COVID19 challenging restrictions. Online conference held between LSBU Acoustics group and Architectural Association

On the 4th March 2021 an on-line conferences was held between LSBU and the world famous Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture with 45 students and academic staff from both institutions attended the afternoon event. The theme of the conference was Acoustics in Architecture, Architecture in Acoustics.  There were 17 presentations delivered in three parallel sessions. The conference and activities were devised and organised by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina and Laura de Azcarate of the Architectural Association (an Acoustic Group Alumni) with the assistance of PhD candidate Doug Shearer. Feedback collected so far has been very positive with attendees rating  the whole experience as excellent and 9 out of 10. It is hoped that this successful event will be repeated and even expanded in the future.

The Quiet Project paper published in Noise Mapping Journal

 
On the 27th January 2021 a scientific paper outlining the work of the Quiet Project was published in the Noise Mapping Journal. The paper entitled, "The Quiet Project- The Acoustic Community's Response to COVID19 during the Easing of Lockdown". presents two case studies in detail and was written by Professor Stephen Dance and Lindsay McIntyre of KSG Acoustics.

Attack of the Drones Abstract submitted to Inter-Noise 21

On the 16th February 2021 Master's student Josie Nixon submitted an invited abstract to the virtual conference Inter-Noise 2021. The paper entitled, "Attack of the Drones - Exploration of Sound Power Levels Emitted and the Impact Drone’s could have on Rural Areas". The research combines two studies one as an IOA Diploma student and one as a Masters' student.
 

The Acoustics Group and the IOA host a talk on the AVO guide

On 17th February 2021 Dave Trew presented a highly informative talk to the London Branch of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) entitled “ANC Acoustics, Ventilation and Overheating: Residential Design Guide”. Dave, the principal author of the one year-old guide, gave a comprehensive outline of the document aimed to serve as a set of guidelines and procedural tool in building design. The meeting reached a peak of 163 attendees and had over 30 minutes of questions and discussion from a very interested audience. The talk was organized and hosted by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina of the LSBU Acoustics Group and the IOA London Branch. We are grateful to Dave for his time and shared knowledge.

 

Abstract on the Quiet Project for ASA Acoustics in Focus

 
Professor Dance has been invited to present his work on the Quiet Project- The Acoustics Community Response to COVID-19 at the new Acoustics in Focus conference. This is a special session on the pandemic to be held on-line at the Acoustical Society of America organised virtual conference, 8-10th June 2021 .
