Presentation at Euronoise 2015

Dr Stephen Dance presented his work on "Sound Exposure and the Hearing of Musicians" at Euronoise 2015, Maastricht. The paper gave the analysis of 2500 individual classical musicians and was well received by the audience.

Acoustics Group at Euronoise 2015

The Acoustics Group attended Euronoise 2015 at Maastricht 1st-3rd June 2015. It was agreed that we will help organise Acusticum Forum/Acoustical Society of America conference in Boston, June 2017. We are organising a session on assisted listening devices in rooms. Maastricht is a great city and the conference was fun .

London Heliport Noise Monitoring Agreed

On the 28th May 2015 it was agreed that the Acoustics Group will undertake noise monitoring of London's only commercial heliport in Battersea. Working with Colin Stanbury and Wandsworth Council a CEL 593 environmental noise monitoring station will be installed on the Control Tower to monitor aircraft movement. These measurements will be supplemented with additional monitoring sites to calibrate a noise prediction model. Lots of work to do!

Earthwise Construction and the Acoustics Group team up

Earthwise Construction and the Acoustics Group have teamed up to submit an application to the Building Research Establishment for the Rapid measurement of heat losses from walls competition:http://www.bre.co.uk/page.jsp?id=3603. The competition is for up to £50,000 is to devise a way of measuring a u-value of an an existing external solid wall in less than an hour in any season, with an accuracy margin of 10 to 15%. Let's hope they like our ideas!

Students create 3-D printed Dodec Loudspeaker

On the 13th May 2015 MSc students produced two 3-D printed dodec loudspeakers. Each loudspeaker was characterised for sound power and directivity as part of the cheap acoustics challenge. Well done Andy and Simon!

Acoustics Students visit the Royal College of Art

On the 8th May 2015 the London South Bank University Masters students in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics were invited to visit the Royal College of Art upon invitation of Mike Wyeld. The students got to see the 3-D workshops and the Laser cutters, before visiting the Sound Studios. Future collaborations were discussed over a roof top cup of coffee and a Guinness cake!

NTI Audio visits London South Bank University

Charles Green, NTI Audio UK Sales manager, visited the acoustic group on 1st May 2015. Dr Luis Gomez Agustina discussed potential future collaborations before introducing him to the MSc students. Charles then gave a very informative presentation on the latest solutions in acoustic instrumentation. Charles was impressed by the students knowledge of the NTi XL2 meter!
