Measurements at Henry Wood Hall


The Acoustics Group undertook room acoustics measurements on 10th March 2009 for the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Henry Wood Hall, Trinity Church Square, London. The LPO use the space as a rehearsal room as do the LSO and RPO. TheA assessment will be used to change the natural acoustic of the hall.

Brighton Dome Measurements


On Saturday 7th March 2009 the Acoustics Group undertook architectural acoustic measurements at the Brigton Dome for the London Philharmonic Orchestra. We were impressed! The artifical reverberance system worked well, but it didn't need 2 hours to warm up! The LPO then put on a beautiful programme, which we measured (and enjoyed ) using 10 dose badges. This provided the finale to a very long day!

Glyndnebourne Orchestra Pit- Mind the Trap


The Acoustics Group were down at Glyldnebourne on Saturday 7th March to measure the acoustics of the orchestra pit. We now have design ideas to improve the sound for both the musicians and the audience! Well done Georgia and Christos for getting out of bed very early!

At the Association of British Orchestras

Dr Stephen Dance, Miss Georgia Zepidou and Dr Malcolm Every of Sound Research Laboratories attended the annual Association of British Orchestras conference at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff on 25-26th February. A fun time was had by all!

Research Meeting in Porto: LUDWIG


Georgia Zepidou and Stephen Dance were invited, as part of a delegation, to visit the 3 universities of Porto- the Polytechnic Institute, the Catholic University and the University. The delegation consisted of members of Royal College of Music and University College London. Over 2 days our excellent hosts Daniela and Sophia from the Superior School of Music were most informative.

Acoustics Group ready for Euronoise


The Acoustics Group submitted 11 abstracts for Euronoise '09, to be held October 25-27th in Edinburgh. The research has been undertaken by 4 Masters students, 5 PhD students and 2 academics. Looking forward to seeing you all in Scotland.

iPhone Testing at Academy of Music


After numerous testa we have established that the Apple iPhone can be used as an accurate indicator of noise level, LAeq. Instruments tested include piano, flute, bassoon,violin, trumpet, cello, and horn. The final test will be timpani. Well done guys and well done to Faber Acoustical
