Welcome to the club Dr Durup!

PhD Candidate Nick Durup successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled, "An investigation into the effects of classroom acoustics on teachers' voices". The examiners Dr Stephanie Martin and Dr Bob Peters were highly complimentary on the quality of the research. Thanks should go to Sharps Redmore Partnership for supporting Nick in his studies and to the supervisory team of Dr Dance and Prof Shield on there efforts to steer the research to their successful conclusion. Well done Dr Durup!!

Abstract accepted for Euronoise 2018 in Crete

An abstract of a paper written by LSBU MSc Acoustics student Jerry Rees and project supervisor Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina has been recently accepted by Euronoise 2018 conference. The paper is entitled “Assessment of Ground-borne Vibration from Underground Trains on a Proposed Residential Development” and will be published and presented at the Euronoise 2018 conference to be held in Crete (Greece) on 27- 31 May 2018. Luis elected full member of IOA London Branch

At the  2018 Annual General Meeting of the London Branch Committee held on 18 Jan 2018 at WSP (Chancery Lane),  Luis Gomez-Agustina was elected full member of the committee upgrading from co-opted member. This post is of 3 year term. The committee formed mostly by senior acoustics consultants, manages the largest and most active IOA branch in UK. It always good to see the LSBU Acoustics Group deeply involved in the activities of the IOA. We hope to see you at the next events planned, watch this space!

IOA Diploma students present to London Branch

On 18 Jan 2018  Diploma course director at LSBU Luis Gomez Agustina introduced two of the last year's students, Ben Dixon and Stuart Goodbun, who presented their Diploma final projects at the IOA London Branch. The presentations were delivered excellently and generated significant interest and questions from experts in the  audience. Very well done Ben and Stuart !

UKAN The UK Acoustics Network's 1st Steering Meeting

The UK Acoustics Network held it's first steering committee meeting on 16th January 2018 at Hoare Lee's offices in London. There are now 10 special interest groups each focusing on an aspect of acoustics. Dr Stephen Dance now leads the Communication and Room Acoustics SIG. So watch out for news! Abstract Accepted for IOA Acoustics 2018, Cardiff

An abstract of a paper written by LSBU IOA Diploma student Charlotte Hennessy and project supervisor Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina has been recently accepted by IOA 2018 conference. The paper is entitled : “Noise Attenuation study from Delivery Roll Cages”. The paper discusses for the first time the issue of noise emissions from delivery roll cages used during night time commercial deliveries and proposes a suitable measuring technique. The two day conference will take place on 23-24 April 2018 at City Hall, Cathay's Park, Cardiff. We hope to see you at the conference in April

Diploma Students to present to IOA London Branch

Two Institute of Acoustics Diploma students from London South Bank University will present their project work at the IOA London Branch on 18th January 2018. Ben Dixon will deliver an abbreviated test method for impact sound insulation testing. Stuart Goodbun will present his analysis of the impact of train services on the acoustic environment in accordance to relevant standards and guidance documents. Hope you can all make it!

Accepted abstract for ICSV25 Hiroshima 2018

An abstract of a forthcoming paper by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina and Dr Steve Dance has been recently accepted by 25th International Congress of Sound and Vibration 2018. The paper will be published and presented at the conference to be held on 08-12 July 2018 in Hiroshima (Japan). The abstract of the paper is entitled “Noise emissions and associated impact from London Heliport operations” and reports on a noise emissions monitoring study alongside a parallel study on the perception, attitudes and impact of the  London Battersea Heliport on local residents. A donation from Anne Kyyro Quinn

The acoustic panel designer Anne Kyyro Quinn has kindly donated 8 panels to the Acoustics Group here at London South Bank University. These panels will be measured by the students and then form the basis of several research projects! An exciting start to the year!
