British Council UK Alumni Awards


The Education UK Alumni Awards are held every year to celebrate and honour the achievements of UK educated alumni. This year the British Council together with Saudi Arabia announced 9 contenders for the 2016-17 prize. Emad Bukhary, a former Masters student on the Environmental and Architectural Acoustics course 2010/11 was one of the nominees, His area, as ever, was entrepreneurship- we wish him all the best in his future endeavours!

Abstract submitted to Musical Acoustics 2017

Dr Stephen Dance and Doug Shearer has submitted an abstract to the Institute of Acoustics one day meeting of the Musical Acoustics Group. The meeting will be held at the Nottingham Conference centre immediately before the start of Reproduced Sound on the 21st November 2017. The abstract is entired, "Facing the Music- An in-depth study of the long term hearing acuity of classical music students".

Royal Opera House visit

Early on the 27th February 2017 Dr Stephen Dance was invited to the Royal Opera House to measure the acoustics of the choral rehearsal space. The visit became a field trip for the Masters students who assisted in the measurement. Data was collect, coffee drunk and a project was born!

Listening to London Kicks Off

On the 23rd February 2017 the kick off workshop of the Listening to London catapult was held at Foster + Partners offices in London. 15 Wandsworth Schools attended the meeting to understand the the capabilities of the equipment and the simple setup procedure. An excellent turn out given the terrible weather conditions caused by storm Doris!

The Art of Being a Consultant

On the 22nd February 2017 London South Bank University had the pleasure of hosting the Institute of Acoustics 'The Art of Being a Consultant' seminar series. A packed house were entertained and informed about the world of consultancy with 8 guest speakers from the acoustics industry. After a full day discussions the meeting adjourned to the Albert Arms!

Students measure Henry Wood Hall

On the 16th February 2017 the Acoustics Group and the IOA/MSc students visited Henry Wood Hall. The students took room acoustics measurements in the hall for an assignment using WinMLS software. Let's hope they got a get set of data!

Sky TV at the Acoustics Lab

On the 3rd February 2017 Tom Cheshire of Sky TV News crew came to film at the Acoustics laboratory of London South Bank University. They were shooting a news item on how social media groups tend to echo views already held. There were a lot of puns in the piece!
