PhD Candidate Nick Durup has submitted an abstract to the Finnish Society for Voice Ergonomics. The conference will be held in Helsinki in September 2016. The theme of the symposium is on challenges of the sound of teacher's work, class acoustics and sound ergonomics means to assist teachers.

Award Winning MSc students to Present at IOA London Branch
Two award winning Masters students are to present at the Institute of Acoustics London Branch meeting. Simon Brown of Charcoal Blue will be presenting his work on 1:10 physical scale modelling of 3-D printed materials. PhD candidate Doug Shearer will be detailing his work on the characterization of low frequency absorption of porous and panel absorbers using the Microflown Impedance gun.

Royal Academy of Music Audiometry
Since 2010, a sample of Royal Academy of Music students undertake exit audiometry at London South Bank University. For the seventh year 44 students have had their hearing tested as part of a comprehensive hearing surveillance programme. This year the students are being given Dynamic Ear Company earplugs.

Acoustics at Elephant studios
Over two nights last week four students from the postgraduate acoustics programmes measured the characteristics of Elephant studios with the assistance of Justin Randell and Dr Stephen Dance. They measured the film room, radio studio, media studio, cinema and sound studio. Finally, the performance of the Dolby ATMOS room was measured. They were long nights but the data was worth it!
21st Century Challenges in Acoustics
On the 15th April 2016 Dr Stephen Dance attended the Institute of Acoustics meeting on the "Acoustic Research Challenges in the 21st Century" held at the Royal Society. The day was divided into two halves, the first leading individuals gave a view of their research area, and the second were round table discussions. Great to see so many old friends!

MSc student wins Young Professional Grant
On the 14th April 2016, MSc student Simon Brown was awarded the International Institute of Noise Control Engineers Young Professional Grant. Simon was one of 15 people to win the award. The 600 Euros will allow him to travel and attend to the 45th I-INCE conference to be held in Hamburg, Germany. Simon will be presenting his Masters thesis. Enjoy Germany!

Dr Stephen Dance acts an External Examiner for Salford University
Dr Stephen Dance is acting as the External Examiner for the University of Salford. He is examining Masters thesis by research on the acoustics programme. His second dissertation to assess is by Apurva Mhapushkar and is entitled, "The effect of diffuser on the rear wall of auditoria".
