Christina Higgins wins best young person's paper
At the Institute of Acoustics annual conference, held in Harrogate, former Masters student Christina Higgins was awarded the Association of Noise Consultant best paper by a young person. The associated presentation were given at the IOA 40th Anniversary Conference in October 2014. The paper was based on her thesis, "Helmholtz resonators for the Queen Elisabeth Hall, London". Christina currently works for Ramboll.

Acoustics Group to host Musical Acoustics 2016
The Acoustics Group is pleased to announce that they are hosting the Annual Musical Acoustics Meeting at London South Bank University on the 5th July 2016. It will be a full one day Institute of Acoustics meeting covering all the latest developments and research findings in the field of Musical Acoustics.

Prizing Giving 2016
On the 26th Januaery 2016 LSBU hosted the School of the Built Environment and Architecture prize giving event. The winners of the Acoustics Group prizes, Leo Weber and Richard Earis, both received their award, for the dissertations. Leo's was from the Acoustical Society of America, and Richard's from RBA Acoustics. We then, together with this year's students, celebrated their joint success!
UK Aviation Industry View Meeting
London South Bank University hosted a full to capacity Institute of Acoustics event on 26th January 2016. The full day meeting covered all acoustic aspects of the recent Airport Commission report on expansion of UK air traffic capacity. Masters students attended the event to get a better understanding of the possible future impact of noise on communities.

HSL Technical Symposium
On the 3rd March 2016, Dr Stephen Dance will be attending a technical symposium organised by the Health and Safety Laboratories. The symposium theme is Hearing Conservation- Emerging Science and Moving Forward Together. The results from our on-going research collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music will be presented in detail!

Brad Backus article in the Mail Online
On the 5th January 2016, the British newspaper, The Mail On-line, reported on Dr Brad Backus work on everyday noise exposure using his Audio-3.com SoundBadge TM. Using the badge the noise exposure of five people is measured and Brad's expert advice offered. The London South Bank University Masters' students will know Brad from his excelletn lectures on perception and hearing. Excellent advertising for acoustics!

Paper on Classroom Acoustics and Voice Parameter of Teachers
On the 6th January 2016, a special issue of the Journal of Building Acoustics was published. It is focused on Teachers Voice in Classroom and Acoustics. PhD Candidate Nick Durup has written a research paper entitled, "An investigation into Relationships between Classroom Acoustics Measurements and Voice Parameters of Teachers". It was written in collaboration with Prof. Bridget Shield, Dr Rory Sullivan and Dr Stephen Dance. It is published in Volume 22, Number 3+4, Pages 225-242, 2015 issue. Well done Nick!
LSBU to Host UK Aviation Industry Review
On the 26th January 2016, London South Bank University will host an Institute of Acoustics event to review the UK Aviation Acoustics Industry. The meeting will consider the next steps for the UK Aviation Acoustics Industry in light of the final report from the Airport's Commission. The all day event will consists of eight presents representing acoustics, the community, Airbus, and the Civil Aviation Authority, for more information.
