Acoustics Group to Help Cool the Tube

Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina will be helping the London South Bank University Refrigeration Team to deliver a consultancy project aimed at improving cooling systems on subsurface London Underground platforms. Trial tests are to start soon deep underground. Not pleasant place to be work on fine springtime days.

IOA Certificate Student Intake April 15


A new intake of the IOA Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurements (CCENM) started at LSBU on 27April Course tutor and coordinator Dr Gomez-Agustina welcomed the new students and delivered the first day session. Dr Stephen Dance and Dr Bob Peters are on the teaching team. The students commented highly on the canteen food. Let's hope they enjoy the course as much as the food!

Mach Acoustics give a presentation on Improving the acoustic performance of natural ventilation systems

 

On 23April 2015 Ze Nunes of Mach Acoustics gave a very interesting talk on the acoustics benefits and challenges of using natural ventilation in building designs.The talk was very well received particularly by post graduate acoustics students. Organiser Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina had some time to catch up with Ze after more than 13years since they worked for Dyson in Mamelsbury, UK

Steve presents at IOA Midlands Branch

 
On the 22nd April 2015 Dr Stephen Dance was gave a presentation to the Institute of Acoustics Midlands branch. Mike Breslin invited Steve up to WS Atkins so that he could present the very latest research on musicians' hearing and the sound of performance. The packed house enjoyed a likely talk before heading off for the now traditional evening curry!

Dr Stephen Dance becomes a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

On the 17th April 2015 Dr Stephen Dance became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. This was awarded in recogition of of his 22 years of teaching in higher education.

Audiometric Testing with the Royal Academy of Music students

The Acoustics Group of London South Bank University has undertaken an audiological study by retesting a sample of final year Royal Academy of Music students. Between 13th April and the 6th May 50 students will be tested. For the first time the music students have also been given Happy Ears earplugs.
