On the 1st May 2014 the Conversation published a response to an article written in the BMJ by Schink et al on hearing loss amongst professional musicians.It states that in Germany professional musicians are at increased risk of hearing disorders than the general population. The article end with a call for improved solutions to address this issue. The Conversation asked Dr Stephen Dance to comment.

The Training Partnership Maths Lecture
On the 1st and 8th December 2014 the Training Partnership will hold a maths events for the education of A levels students on topics usually outside the normal syllabus. The mathematics lecture will be on maths behind acoustics. The aim is to inspire and inform the students and will be given by Dr Stephen Dance.

Royal Academy of Music Exit Tests
On the 29th April 2014 the Royal Academy of Music students completed their audiometric exit tests. This was the fourth year of the exit tests and as ever the results were excellent. Its seems that the education programme is having an affect on the students.

RBA Acoustics Prize - Shane Sugrue
On the 2nd May 2013, MSc student Shane Sugrue was award the RBA Acoustics prize for the best dissertation. His dissertation was entitled, "Singing and Space : A comparative study of choral singers and perceptions of auditorium acoustics in three venue types". I know Shane had to fly round the world to get the data, and I learnt that Chinese balloons are not so robust!

10 SoundBadges arrive
Audio3 have supplied the Acoustics Group with 10 new SoundBadges. The sound level meters will first be used on noise exposure measurements to establish factory noise levels. The long wait was worthwhile!
