RBA Acoustic Prize Awarded

On the 6th April 2011 RBA Acoustics prize was awarded the MSc Environmental and Architectural Acoustics prize to Daniel Flood at the LSBU Faculty Award Celebration Day. Dan's dissertation was entitled, "Analysis and acoustic improvement to a live venue". Russell Richardson presented the prize and cheque to Daniel over a glass of wine, as is now the tradition.

Cheap Sound Level Meters Tested

In September 2011 all first year undergraduate Building Services Engineers will take a module which includes acoustics. The Acoustic Group is testing the capabilities of cheap sound level meters, so that the students get hands-on experience. This is the best cheap meter, but it requires a netbook to work properly!

MSc Students at the Royal Society

On 12th April 2011, the Master students attended an Institute of Acoustics meeting at the Royal Society. The meeting was for young consultants and was entitled, "The Arts of Being a Consultant". I hope the students picked up some practical tips.

The Spring Gathering...

On 7th April the Acoustics Group researchers had their spring gathering. We meet in the sunshine before enjoying a meal at TAS EV with plenty of liquid refreshment. It was the official welcoming for Dr Bob Peters, our new visiting research fellow! [Georgia took the photo]

Measurements at the Royal Academy of Music

On 31st March 2011, the Masters students measured the two main spaces at the Royal Academy of Music - Jack Lyons Theatre and the Dukes Hall. The students used winMLS and the ANV Dodec speaker. They will compare these results to those taken by Arup!
