Peter Mapp gives a guest lecture

On Tuesday 29th March 2011 Peter Mapp came to London South Bank University to give his now annual guest lecture. Peter gave a most informative and illustrated presentation with plenty of dynamic demonstrations. That allowed the students to give him plenty of feedback!

Field Trip to St Paul's

On Thursday 24th March, lecture strike day, the Masters student went on a visit to St Paul's and Tate Modern. It was beautiful day and the Whispering Wall worked a treat!

New Sound Insulation Equipment Purchased

The Acoustics Group have purchased the latest Norsonics sound insulation kit from Campbell Associates to compliment our Norsonics 121 Analyser. The kit includes a new lightweight tapping machine, Nor 277, a Class D amplifier and signal generator - Nor 280, and a new lightweight hemi-dodec sound source . Obviously, we are trying to save weight!

CADNA Noise Mapping Software Purchased

The Acoustics Group have purchased the USB protected noise mapping software package CADNA. There will be a lot of training required before the students get to play with it as part of the Masters course in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics, not forgetting the PhD students!

RBA- Acoustic prize goes to...

On the 17th March 2011 RBA Acoustics awarded the MSc Environmental and Architectural Acoustics prize to Daniel Flood. Dan's project was entitled, "Analysis and acoustic improvement to a live venue". Prize giving is on the 6th April 2011 when the cheque arrives! Well Done Dan!

Acoustic screens tested at the Royal Academy

On the 10th March 2011, the Masters students joined Dr Dance at the Royal Academy of Music. They spent the afternoon testing new zero footprint acoustic screens in the theatre's orchestra pit. Unfortunately, I only made the musicians play scales!

Our new audiometer

On the 3rd March 2011 the Acoustics Group completed the complete refurbishment of the audiometry facility. A new Amplivox CA850 v4 automated screen audiometer was installed in the second sound proof booth. The booth was tested using the acoustic camera for leaks, there were none!

Campbell Associates Give Demonstration

On 1st March 2011, John Campbell and Lee Bearman came in to show the Masters students a new gadget! The Acoustic Camera uses 225 MEMS microphone to record or measurement acoustic signals to create a virtual microphone. Excellent for detecting leaks or source identification. Thanks guys!
