Alec Korchev submits his PhD thesis

On the 23rd May 2026 PhD candidate Alec Korchev submitted his thesis and Turnitin report. His thesis entitled, "Wind induced creaking noise in tall buildings" was undertaken and supported by Clarke Saunders and the Association of Noise Consultants. The supervisory team of Professor Dance, Ottavia Rispoli and Ed Clarke supported Alec over the past 4 years. Well done Alec!

 

International news... Depixen Visit

 

During the 20-22nd May 2026 Professor Stephen Dance visited the offices of Depixen in Istanbul. With the support of the British Embassy a link has been created to develop AI in Acoustics in the overall theme of Architecture.  Productive and informative meetings were held with an end goal set of further developing the software through a manufacturer neutral Product Catalogue, working alongside Ecophon. A very enjoyable few days in rainy Turkey!

Biobased Acoustic Additive Manufactured Metamaterials Project

On the 19th May 2026 the Biobased Acoustic Additive Manufactured Metamaterial (BAAMM) project commenced with the support of Biosymtex and Guy's and St Thomas's Hospital. The project is led by Federico Rossi and Professor Stephen Dance, on this 5 month Royce Institute funded research. BAAMM will create a unform sound field for free-field audiometry. Lets see how far we get!

 

New Research Assistant Starts on Project

 

On the 19th May 2026 a new Research Assistant has joined the Acoustics Group, PhD candidate Ruben Vazquez-Amos. He will work on the Royce funded BAAMM assisting on metamaterial design and room acoustic measurements. Welcome to paying tax!

The Certificate Students May 2026

 

On the 5th May 2026 the Institute of Acoustics Certificate students started the Environmental Noise Measurement short course. This is the 13th time the Acoustics Group has run the 5 day course. This year Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina is leading the course with 10 candidates. Students are from all backgrounds, so 
an interesting bunch!
